Orientation Days and Peer Tutoring at LUT
For all the new students who begin their studies in LUT a joint orientation week will be organized. Some of the events during the orientation week are organized by the university and some by the LUT School of Energy Systems (LES). Orientation week is a good way to ensure a smooth start for the studies.
Important information about the beginning of the studies, about the university as a community, student community, the support services and about the city of Lappeenranta will be offered during the orientation. International students also receive basic information about the Finnish society, culture and life in Finland.
Participation to the orientation takes place under the guidance of your appointed tutor (read more about peer tutoring). Tutor plays an important role in helping new students to get assimilated into the university system.
If you have any questions regarding the orientation you can contact tutoring secretary Ms. Roosa Hynninen tuutorointisihteeri(at)lut.fi or Ms. Tanja Karppinen tanja.karppinen(at)lut.fi.
All the new students at the LUT will have a peer tutor. The peer tutor will guide, help, tell, encourage and care for the new student at the beginning of her/his academic life.
Personal Study Plan ´PSP´
A personal study plan is a practical tool for planning, scheduling and following one's studies. Its purpose is to support goal-oriented studies and the completion of the degree within the timeframe set for it. The plan presents the courses included in the student's degree and how they fit into the degree structure.
The studies are completed according to the study guide. The study plan's first version is made at the beginning of the studies and it must be updated till the date of graduation according to the guidelines approved by LUT. Personal study plan is made for the entire duration of the studies. At LUT, the personal study plans are reviewed and revised at least two times during the studies, in the beginning of the studies and before graduation.
The PSP contains:
• All the courses the student is going to study for the B.Sc. degree
• Credit transfers from other universities/degrees (if any)
• Additional studies (if any)
Keep your Personal Study Plan ´PSP´ up-to-date
Good planning is half the battle and it eases your workload for instance in the course enrollments.
You also need to plan how to use your time effectively. One needs to complete the mandatory studies according the study plan.
