    Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering

    After the completion of the Master´s Programme in Mechanical Engineeringn a student will understand the applications of mechanical engineering in different specialisation areas and know how to combine them to form multidisciplinary knowledge, skills and competences. A student will acquire:

    - competence to think through industrial research and development problems logically and solve them to contribute to critical and innovative thinking in different areas of mechanical engineering;

    - professional skills that enable you to understand the needs and special features in mechanical engineering design, IoT, automatised and robotised production and manufacture of products, material selection and modelling and reliability-based design, and business-oriented project work; you will learn to utilise fully digitised design, simulation and production environments for different areas of mechanical engineering including sustainability aspects;

    - multidisciplinary teamwork skills that enable you to participate and interact in task-orientated engineering groups in a productive manner and lead and manage design projects.

    In advanced specialisation studies the student will specialise in two of the following specialisation modules:

    Welding Technology and Metallurgy specialisation package offers the studies which comprises the themes of digitised welding and welding production, advanced welding processes and equipment, overall development and quality of welding production as well as welding metallurgy and weldability. This package provides the knowledge for working in different fields of manufacturing industry related to modern welded applications and sustainable solutions.

    The studies in Composites and Hybrid Materials focus on modules of studies in different sub-areas like composites, advanced metallic materials, ceramics, carbon-based materials, polymers and biopolymers and minerals to be utilized in applications of Mechanical Engineering.

    The specialisation of Industrial Design Engineering (IDE), integrates design, technology and material aspects. The IDE package is for the students who are interested in design a solution for real life problems. This course package prepares students to see the problems from multiple perspectives and to respond through innovative solutions. In this package, students will be prepared to take part actively in multidisciplinary projects.

    The package of Steel Structures prepares experts, who are capable of design, analyzing and fabrication of advanced steel structures for demanding application and energy efficient solutions.

    In specialisation studies of Laser Processing and Additive Manufacturing a student will acquire comprehensive understanding in laser processing and additive manufacturing and features of them in different industrial applications. Student is also able to design and analyze different aspects required in laser processing and additive manufacturing, and he will also know how these are applied for demanding applications and energy efficient solutions.

    Specialisation studies in Robotics and Mechatronics gives overview of engineering tools and methods by means of which autonomous manufacturing systems can be designed and implemented. It is demonstrated by utilizing modern digital tools how to design, select and implement modern motion control and robotic systems to compose semi- or fully autonomous industrial production systems.

    Specialisation of Sustainable Manufacturing Processes gives a thorough overview for a wide range of manufacturing technologies. These technologies are essential for the steps through which raw materials are transformed into a final product. The competitiveness of companies is based on capability, flexibility, and productivity of manufacturing taken care of design for manufacturing and assembling aspects.

    Specialisation of Digital Engineering gives a thorough overview for simulator-driven design and manufacturing technologies. These technologies are used in every part of the product lifecycle, thus enhancing potentials for new business models and driving increased competitiveness.

    Industrial Design Engineering Industrial Design Engineering

    After completing Master's Programme in Industrial Design Engineering a student will have a proper skill in in seeing the problems from multiple perspectives and find competence in areas such as innovative design, manufacturing methods, human factors, creative problem solving, advanced materials, industrial and business challenges, and environmental considerations.A student will learn to understand different aspects of design for manufacturing, sustainability and creativity in design as well as the importance of consumer behaviour, development trends and value addition through new industrial techniques. A student will acquire:

    - multidisciplinary project work skills to cooperate with experts from other fields, such as engineers, marketers, procurers, and project managers; you will participate in theoretical and methodological courses integrated into projects with regional companies and learn to see problems from multiple perspectives and solve them optimally with innovative  production processes, consumer products, interactions and processes;

    - professional skills to develop and design new products and services effectively on the global industrial scale; you will gain skills in concept visualisation, CAD modelling, product development, and technological and commercial perspectives, and in-depth knowledge of the selection of materials in production, design methods, sustainability and manufacturing aspects.

    - a professional network by learning about practical issues in design, production processes and applied projects in close collaboration with Finnish and other European companies.
