Students receive separate degree certificates for the Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS credits) and Master's degree (120 ECTS credits). The certificate will show e.g. the graduate's degree and field of education, degree programme and specialisation/major and minor subjects/studies.
Degree certificate includes transcript of the student's records in Finnish and in English, listing all courses completed for the degree and their grades. Also major and minor subjects are given an overall grade in the transcript according to the table above. The transcript shows the weighted average grade of all completed courses, including the final thesis. The average grade of the degree is calculated for all passed courses assessed on a scale of 0 to 5.
If over half of the ECTS credits for a degree have been assessed on a scale other than 0–5, no grade average will be calculated.
Supplementary studies completed by the student will be presented in a separate annex to the degree certificate.
For Finnish and Swedish speaking students, the degree certificate also indicates the language of education and the maturity test as well as proficiency in the other official language of Finland.
Graduates receive a degree certificate in both Finnish and English for degrees completed in another language. For Finnish degree certificates, the university provides an English translation.
The Bachelor's and Master's degrees are completed "with distinction" if the average grade of the degree is at least 4,00 and Bachelor's/Master's thesis grade is 5.
Those who have completed their studies with distinction receive a scholarship from LUT.
The university issues a Diploma Supplement for international use to undergraduate and postgraduate degree recipients. The supplement provides information on the university, the studies and study attainments referred to in the degree certificate, and their level in the education system.
Students must apply for graduation, which takes place on one of the graduation dates decided by the rector. To graduate and receive the degree certificate, the student must be enrolled as attending.
